Dear Churpers!
It’s this time of the year again; where all of us come together as one, marching into a better year of being a free and independent country
We’ve all come a long way towards Merdeka!
It wasn’t always this way when Malaya was under the British Colonization from year 1786 to year 1957
It was tough because then, work was difficult to find. Everyone was poor and no one liked the foreigners taking over. The sense of injustice and inequality that in Malaya was a hard pill to take, but no one really knew what to do about.
Until, one man decided it was enough. Our first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra spearheaded efforts for independence, leading a delegation of ministers and political leaders of Malaya in negotiations Independence in London.
After a long and hard effort, agreement was finally reached on February 8, 1956.
The official proclamation of independence was made the next year, on August 31, 1957, at Stadium Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
59 years on, because of the generations that were before us, Malaysia has become such a different place! J There is so much to be thankful for and so many things to appreciate.
Our family at Churp Churp would love to take this opportunity to shout out a huge,
“HAPPY MEDERKA DAY TO ALL OF US, MALAYSIANS!”
On this joyous occasion, our beloved Alphas share what Merdeka means to them!
